Funk Yes! Get ready to dance on Thursday, February 10!

It’s hard to keep up with all the amazing events going on in Revelstoke this winter. This sleepy little mountain town has come alive! Be sure to catch Funk Yes!, featuring BC’s own Stickybuds, a seriously talented Kelowna DJ/Producer that has thrown down with the likes of A Skillz, Featurecast and currently has a chart topping release with Deekline and Ed Solo.

Who are all these guys? Come down to find out! Stickybuds is not just a DJ. He produces his own tracks, ranging from break beats to ghetto funk to glitch hop. He’s got mad style and has been inspiring others as a teacher at Kelowna’s Center for Arts and Technology.

Astral Mountain Productions (AMP), Revelstoke’s own collaboration of music-and-fun loving ski bums who enjoy nothing more than to throw a good party, will be presenting Funk Yes Thurs., Feb 10 at Outabounds Nightclub. Tickets are $10 at the door only, and all retro wear is encouraged.

AMP’s Rikki MacCuish got a chance to catch up with Stickybuds, aka Tyler Martens, the other day just in time for his pre-international tour wind up. Martens is hitting up Revelstoke before doing a tour down to Brazil and the UK.

Martens finds our UK and Canada similarly awesome though has been blown away even more by Brazil. “I thought the UK was quite similar to the party scene that we have here in Canada: lots of happy people out to have a good time and quite receptive to the music that I like to play,” he explains. “Brazil was interesting, but amazing, as their music scene has a different culture. I found them really welcoming …some of the bass heavier ghetto funk tunes I was playing were pretty new to them, but they really love to have a good time.” What can we say? Canadians love their bass!

Thinking about trying out Shambhala Music Festival this summer? You’ll be sure to see Stickybuds there - he’s been a five-year resident DJ at “Sham“‘s insane Fractal Forest stage. His funky tracks have made many a booty-shaker happy.

And if you think trying to keep down two jobs and a serious skiing addiction is tough, try this guy’s work-life balance.

“I spend at least 40 hours a week working on tracks or DJ sets,” he says. That’s besides the teaching, traveling and DJing, not to mention all the promotional work.

All Stickybuds’ hard work has paid off though. With tracks constantly topping the charts at Juno Records (www.juno.co.uk) and with keeping up with a hectic touring schedule this bass phenomenon has been attacking everything from celebrity-DJ collaborations to throwdowns.

You’re not going to want to miss this show—“Funk Yes” everyone! Cheers to a solid live event season this year in Revelstoke and we’ll see you all there in your ghetto gear! Get there early, the opening acts DJ DangerTree (Kamloops, CRAZE Productions) and Revy’s own Joey Norsworthy will be shaking the dance floor prior to the main event.
