Welcome to Revelstoke, new people!
Hey newbies! Welcome to Revelstoke. Enjoy your time here, however long it is - this place is magical. Please smile at everyone you pass on the street. We all choose to live here (either born or transplanted), so we’ve all got that in common. :)
Remember the “campsite rule” - leave this place in better shape than when you found it. That means something different to everyone: it could be as simple as patronizing local businesses or galleries, volunteering with an organization, joining a committee, shoveling your neighbour’s walkway, moving your car for the snow plow, patting dogs, donating to the food bank, picking up hitchhikers on their way to the mountain, being nice to the people helping you, holding the door open for people, picking up litter, or smoothing out differences in a peaceful manner rather than resorting to violence or angry words. Keep your fingers crossed for piles of snow, look both ways when you’re bombing down the mountain, and don’t get into needlessly petty arguments on the Stoke List. This goes for all of you, not just new additions!
Even if you’re just here for a season, many of us are here for the long haul and we want to make sure that Revelstoke just gets better and better. Good move coming to Revy - this town is amazing, and so are its residents.
And a note to locals - give newcomers a chance, too. The Stoke List was never designed to be an outlet for ethnocentrism. We live in a resort town now and that’s not going to change, so move on and make the best of life - carrying around grudges and resentment won’t make your feel better, but maybe volunteering as an ESL tutor, playing music, making art, meeting new friends at a coffee shop, or starting a new business will. Lead by example, friends.
