Early Morning Explosions with Revelstoke Pro...
Revelstoke Pro Patrol took John Brodie and I up to the sub-peak on Saturday morning for an explosives demo. KABOOM! We wanted to find out exactly what goes on in the mornings, and how Pro Patrol keeps us all as safe as they can from avalanche danger.
Considering the power used and the amount of snow Pro Patrol aims to move, please be smart in the mornings and aware of your surroundings....

Buttery Snow and Blustery Winds in Revelstoke
The snow through North Bowl this morning was, for the most part, still really creamy. Especially about halfway down Discipline/Mania/right around there - because they were leeward slope, some soft and buttery snow was deposited down onto that area and it was really nice to ski on, considering we didn’t get any fresh snow last night.
FORECAST: The forecast for the next few days ...

Build Your Own Ski Boot Dryer
Revelstoke powder days can leave ski boots cold, damp and smelly. Throw four 75+ days a season skiers in a house and you need some serious hardware to take care of the problem—enter the ‘Destinkinator’, our combination drying closet and boot dryer.

Hits and Misses in...
I had a moderately terrifying few hours this afternoon - after picking the wrong line around the Brake Check area into lower North Bowl, I ended up losing a ski in a fall, tumbling halfway down a chute, throwing my second ski down ahead of me, mountain climbing my way down the rocks at the bottom of the chute, and then digging out two lost skis in waist-deep powder. All told, it took almost two...

Snow has returned to Revelstoke!
Revelstoke Mountain Resort had anywhere between six and twelve inches of super-dry powder today, and it continued on throughout the day. It wasn’t much, but definitely enough to whet appetites for more snow. It’s supposed to keep snowing all week little by little, so hopefully there will be time for it to bond if temperatures warm up a bit. The Resort’s homepage only...

Rain in Revelstoke proper often means snow up on the mountain, so let’s hope that’s the case. Nice to finally see some precip after weeks of valley cloud and sunny mountain tops.

A sunny picnic on top of Revelstoke Mountain...
Well, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. After a bunch of consecutive balmy days in a row, we decided to embrace the vitamin D and have a picnic up top. We brought backpacks loaded with snacks, sandwich implements, muffins, barley pops, hot dogs, hand cut fries and a camping stove, and then had a veritable feast.

Revelstoke Ski Club's...
I spent Sunday morning chasing a group of excited six-year-olds around the mountain on a photoshoot. Coached by Sarah Mihailovich, Group 2 of the Nancy Greene Program is only one group of many at Revelstoke - there are 73 skiers registered in the weekly program, ranging in ages from 6 to 11.

A Ridiculously Warm January Day at Revelstoke...
We’ve had a persistent inversion leaving us with cool, cloudy days in town and beautiful, warm days at the top of the mountain. Today was the warmest yet - temperatures were hovering between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius, rumour has it. A crowd was continually gathered near the top of the Stoke, lounging around in the sun (and some of the more clever folk even brought beer and picnic...

Mt. Begbie Brewing Co. = delicious
Mt. Begbie Brewing Co. is a local Revelstoke micro-brewery, and their Honey Ale (‘Attila the Honey’ - haha, I love puns) is awesome (and not super sweet). Their Pale Ale is not a great beer (in my opinion… I wouldn’t buy it again), but the Tall Timber Ale is really nice as well - really caramel-y. The Kolsch is decent as well. I’ve got a bottle of Cream Ale sitting on...

I want to introduce a hilarious starving artist/web-designing snowboarder taking some amazing photos in Revelstoke recently - Sean Orfila is in Revy for the winter, up from sunny southern California.
He sells prints of his photos (which help subsidize his staying in Revelstoke, thus giving us more sweet pics to look at!), so email him free practical magic for details. You can see...

Chilling out on top of Revelstoke Mountain Resort
For a lot of people up on the mountain, today was obviously a day for taking it easy in the sun. It’s our third incredibly sunny day in a row up top, while mid-mountain and down to the city is swathed in clouds and fog. The temperature inversion going on has been leaving us with a definite spring-skiing vibe.

Get Reved, Revelstoke
While John, Sarah and Janelle were enjoying the epic views from the top of Revelstoke Mountain Resort, I was in and out of some really interesting meetings all day. One reason (of many) why I love this job is that I get to meet informed people who are involved in the Revestoke community.

A Relaxed Day Spent in Revelstoke's North Bowl
After a gloriously late start to the day, Simon and I spent the whole afternoon in North Bowl.

Revelstoke U-Brew
We bottled a few batches of beer tonight at the Revelstoke U-Brew: a Munich Dark Lager and a Stout. This is our second batch of the Munich Dark - it is really nuanced. We also picked up our first batch of stout this time, and enjoyed some around a bonfire tonight.

Productive Days in Revelstoke
I spent almost five hours shovelling today - first, one of our parking spots needed digging out, and then I tackled our monstrously-snowy backyard. Our shed doubles as the ski-tuning palace, and we’ve been absolutely bombarded with snow lately (though the forecast for the next week calls for sun… noooo!). So after digging a path down into (I’m not kidding) four feet of snow, I...

Local celeb sightings on the mountain
We bounded into the warm-up shack at the top of the Stoke today because it was hovering around -20 degrees and the wind was just killing heading up the chair. It was cool to see Mark Abma and Chris Rubens in there warming up as well! John chatted Mark up about boots (Abma is on the new two-buckle + lace Solomon Ghost boots, but used to ride X-Wave 10s, which are what Brodie rides). The two of them...

Revelstoke: What Newcomers Are Saying
We’ve been lucky at The Stoke to welcome a lot of out-of-town guests already, and they’ve all had nothing but incredibly positive things to say about the hill. We know we’re in a good place where the only real complaint we all hear is “my legs get tired because the runs are SO LONG!”
“This is my new favourite mountain,” proclaimed Ben Hall solemnly,...

The Best Snow So Far at Revelstoke Mountain Resort
Today was the very best day for snow yet at Revelstoke Mountain Resort this 2008/09 season. Yesterday was deep, but today was just as deep and infinitely lighter.

A snow slab on Brodie's car
There was quite a bit of new snow piled up on John Brodie’s Altima. While he was brushing it off, a few huge slabs broke off. On one slab the top 15 cm actually sheared off the bottom half - these are definitely indications of potential instability on the mountains. Be careful out there, always.
