The Stoke Video of the Day: An old classic

Posted in Skiing on February 28th, 2009 by karilyn – Be the first to comment

This video makes me grin - I’ve got a soft spot for Glen Plake. It’s a vid extolling the joys of powder skiing in with Selkirk Tangiers Revelstoke, back before the Resort opened.

A Great Quote about Revelstoke

I asked recent visitor Paul Malouf of Montreal, Canada if he had a good stay in Revelstoke. I had to laugh at his cheeky response: “Revelstoke …hmmm. The lift lines are too short; powder too deep; runs too long; people too friendly… Other than that, GREAT!”
Here are a few pictures from his recent stay - he went heli-skiing with Selkirk Tangiers

on February 7th & 8th.

Also an environmental advocate

, Malouf wants to keep raising awareness of the fact that if nothing is done about climate change, our opportunities for glacier adventures like this are limited.

New snow at Revelstoke

Posted in Skiing on February 27th, 2009 by karilyn – Be the first to comment

After a three-week dry spell, winter was back with a vengeance this week in Revelstoke. The snow came back early in the week, dropping more than a foot. There was even another two inches or so dusted over everything this morning - everything still felt pretty fresh and I snagged first tracks down the Gully. It’s been varying degrees of white to grey out there lately, but today the sun was shining and the sky was robin egg blue - one of those days that makes you grin without even realizing it. It was incredibly windy in Revelstoke proper, but it was surprisingly calm up top. Check the sub-peak weather station weather reports , updated every hour to find out the approximate temperature and wind speed up there. It was a fantastic day of riding. I demoed the Faction 3.ZERO

today and killed it all morning on them - always a great feeling. Even though I only rode them for a half a day, it was enough to make me want a pair for next season - if you can get your hands on a pair of Factions to try, do it!

Photos from Finns in February

Posted in Skiing on February 24th, 2009 by karilyn – 2 Comments

It’s finally snowing again in Revelstoke, but last week we met a crowd of incredibly friendly Finnish skiers here for a few weeks who took some amazing pictures of their trip even - with no fresh snowfall during their stay. They did a lot of touring, including off of the backside of Revelstoke Mountain Resort and The Fingers on Mount MacPherson

The guys came over for a backyard bonfire last week and regaled us with songs, stories, and repeated toasts to Finnish-Canadian union! Kippis, boys.

Early February pictures from some American Visitors

We met a crowd of American boarders and skiiers a few weeks ago, reuniting in Revy from all over the country for a boys trip. They sent in a few of their great pictures and shared a few with The Stoke.

Sweet Selkirk Tangiers Heli-skiing video

Posted in Revelstoke Mountain Resort on February 18th, 2009 by karilyn – Be the first to comment

A friend’s company made this promo video last winter, and it is epic. Unfortunately you don’t get the high-def version, but it’s still a great video (much better than the video off the main page of the RMR site serving sara dvdrip download ). This footage is all shot heli-skiing with Selkirk Tangiers. Their heli-ski op has been super successful this winter - I think people are hungry for big lines since we haven’t had huge snowfalls on the mountain.

Respect Your Boundaries!

Posted in Revelstoke Mountain Resort on February 16th, 2009 by karilyn – 3 Comments

A plethora of signs have popped up around Revelstoke Mountain Resort reminding riders that there are hazards associated with going out of bounds. RMR has open boundaries, meaning that you can venure out at your own risk (but never into CLOSED areas - closed and out-of-bounds are very different things). However, if you do duck the boundary rope, make sure you know where you’re going. Do not living daylights the free download follow tracks if you aren’t sure where they lead. Countless people have required rescue recently, some of whom were seriously hurt after finding themselves in situations they could not get out of. We love hitting the slackcountry too, but make sure to always carry a beacon and avy gear (a shovel can come in handy if you need to dig a snow pit to sleep in!), water, and tons of extra calories in your pack.

Paragliding off RMR

Simon and I ran into a really nice paraglider divx black hawk down

about to leap off RMR into the wind this afternoon. Simon helped to untangle his wing after a failed take-off, and then we watched him fly.

Later in the afternoon, we saw a red-winged paraglider sailing around as well. It was a beautiful, breezy day for it.
